Alongside story missions, the city is filled with activities, ranging from fight clubs, to gambling dens, to street races, to cock fights, to training at the local dojo. The game’s open world city of Hong Kong isn’t an exact replica of the real thing, but it captures the neon-encrusted majesty and sleaze of the place beautifully. United Front has done a bang up job of making all this action easy to pick up and heaps of fun to play. In Sleeping Dogs, players will engage in rooftop free-running, car chases, brutal hand-to-hand combat and visceral gun battles that involve both pop-and-cover mechanics and the odd spurt of bullet-time. The reason for this is, in part, down to the game’s mechanics and controls, which are sublime to use and well-mapped to boot. It doesn’t break much new ground in terms of its structure and gameplay, but Sleeping Dogs is easily one of the best – and underrated – open world games of the last generation. If you can’t wait to check out GTA 5 on a current gen machine, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will scratch that itch and then some. If you’ve never played Sleeping Dogs, United Front’s homage to both the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Hong Kong cinema’s early 90s bullet-festival heyday, close the browser now and pick up a copy.

Despite its derivative nature, "Dogs" gets plenty right in terms of both story and action. The city layout may not be a work of art like Los Santos was in "Grand Theft Auto V", but it's fun to navigate through. The Hong Kong setting and cop story is what makes "Sleeping Dogs" really stand out from the rest of the GTA clone pack.
Of course, there are also plenty of scattered icons you can track down for bonus upgrades.

There's also an island that you can visit that is a direct homage to "Enter the Dragon" (with its 70's import movie presentation). You'll be able to participate in street races, fight clubs, gambling, martial-art challenges as well as hacking and various cop activities. The game gives you all the usual side-missions in addition to the main story assignments. Wei can use guns, but his main weapons is his fists and feet. He is given the task of bringing down the Triad gangs. Story wise, you play as Wei Shen, an undercover cop who is a veteran of the mean streets of Hong Kong. A higher resolution, more detailed character models, new fog effects, a better draw distance, less bugs and more NPCs make the game a better experience, at least visually. I played "Sleeping Dogs" on XBOX 360 and immediately noticed the upgraded graphics. So if you're a fan of police thrillers, GTA and martial-art flicks, you'll certainly have a good time with this one. This is an open-world action title that pulls much of its inspiration from the classic Asian film "Infernal Affairs" and Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto" franchise.

Overall, it has everything you want from an open-world, crime action game. Also, there are a few minor bugs and annoyances. Its as though the map was stretched to make it appear bigger just no need, would of seemed denser and more realistic without the separation. One major issue for me is that the map is sectioned into five distinct districts separated by motorways, but none of them are bigger enough or unique enough to warrant. Packed with content, collectables, races, clothes, vehicles, and side missions (that are also fun). Some of the gameplay elements are pretty ridiculous, but undoubtedly fun (hilarious car chases). The plot has the whole "caught between the life of a cop and criminal" thing done well side characters forgettable though.
Has the realism, grit, and attention to detail like GTA, but at the same time it plays in a very arcade style. It feels like a middle ground between GTA and Saints Row. Has Never played the initial release, but always wanted to.
